Instructional Strategies Institute

For: New and Renewing Classroom Teachers and Curriculum Leaders

This three-day workshop for K-12 teachers will provide a forum for participants to navigate changes in the teaching profession and discover new opportunities to blend both innovation and core teaching practices. Participants will explore principles of effective learning, including current research in cognition, instructional design strategies, and the creation of meaningful feedback and authentic assessment. A focus on creativity and learning design will allow participants to balance the human element of education with the intentional integration of technology.

The Crisis in Youth Sports - And What Coaches Can Do About It

This session will host Linda Flanagan, author of Take Back the Game: How Money and Mania Are Ruining Kids' Sports--and Why It Matters, and Lauren Fleshman, author of Good for a Girl: A Woman Running in a Man's World. The fireside chat will explore how our current athletic culture has evolved, the harm it causes to athletes, and gender-specific impacts, while providing guiding principles and considerations for coaches to support athletes and to disrupt the mania.

This session is for Board of Trustee members in their first or second year of service on the Board, or for those who want a reminder of the principles of good governance.
