NJAIS offers many different Professional Development opportunities for faculty, administrators, and Trustees.  We aim to be relevant and responsive, and welcome your ideas and participation in these workshops and conferences.

This two-day conference experience for all grade levels, subject areas, and instructional focus, serves to bring educators together from across the association in order to engage and play with instructional tools, collaborate with colleagues, and enhance instruction.

Administrators of Color Institute

Independent school leaders have been called upon, with new urgency and inspiration, to transform their diversity, equity, and inclusion work with more effective and authentic practices.  This experience offers self-identified administrators of color an exploration of culturally responsive practice, leadership training, and learning together.  Topics will include investigating institutional culture, developing collaborative leadership, and navigating the needs of multiple constituencies while attending to your own. The program is specifically designed to help participants develop the tools they need to be effective change agents within their schools.

The Intersection of AWARE and Leadership: An Institute

Alliance of White AntiRacist Educators
Independent school leaders have been called upon to transform their diversity, equity, and inclusion work with more effective and authentic practices.   As White school leaders of independent schools continue to commit to serving the needs of their whole student body and faculty, their own cultural competence and leadership skills need to evolve with their schools. This experience welcomes self-identified white administrators who hold any supervisory role for an exploration of equity practice, leadership training, and learning together.  Topics will include understanding racial identity, investigating institutional culture, developing collaborative leadership, and navigating the needs of multiple constituencies. The program is specifically designed to help participants develop the tools they need to be effective change agents within their schools.

Instructional Strategies Institute

This three-day workshop for K-12 teachers will provide a forum for participants to navigate changes in the teaching profession and discover new opportunities to blend both innovation and core teaching practices. Participants will explore principles of effective learning, including current research in cognition, instructional design strategies, and the creation of meaningful feedback and authentic assessment. A focus on creativity and learning design will allow participants to balance the human element of education with the intentional integration of technology.

As diversity of thought is essential in pursuit of scholarship, it is also imperative that schools create a community in which everyone feels a sense of belonging.  This session will explore the intersection of free speech and belonging so that dissent is offered and met with respect, promoting authentic expression and to ensure alignment with communities centered on inclusion and belonging.

This session explores how tensions between free speech and campus safety  - the unrest and outside threats such tensions might cause. It also aims to address how school communities of different viewpoints can and should move forward to address hostilities before crises start.

News Literacy in Polarizing Times (Misinformation and Social Media)

Think like a fact-checker and learn how to spot common social media misinformation tropes about the election to help students "prebunk" claims before they encounter them. Using the factors of context, authenticity, reasoning, evidence and source, participants will gain experience evaluating various claims.

Preparing Faculty: Scenarios and Responses

This panel presentation provides frameworks and considerations that prepare faculty for the election season.  With examples of policies and protocols that promotes civil discourse, participants will explore potentially contentious scenarios and how to deescalate them while promoting student voice and expression.

The training will arm learners with practical tools and concrete skills that will elevate and enhance their presentations and communication for informal presentations, structured client presentations, and high stakes renewal and new business pitches.
