Keynote Speaker:

Dr. Andrew Newberg

Dr. Andrew Newberg is a neuroscientist who studies the relationship between brain function and various mental states. He is a pioneer in the neurological study of religious and spiritual experiences, a field known as “neurotheology.” His research includes taking brain scans of people in prayer, meditation, rituals, and trance states, in an attempt to better understand the nature of religious and spiritual practices and attitudes.

Featured Speaker: Amy Wright Glenn

Amy Wright Glenn is a teacher of comparative religion and philosophy, CD(DONA) birth doula, Kripalu Yoga teacher, hospital chaplain, and author. She is a regular contributor to PhillyVoice writing on topics relating to birth, ethics, spirituality, end-of-life care, and parenting. Amy taught in the Religion and Philosophy Department at The Lawrenceville School for over a decade, earning the Dunbar Abston Jr. Chair for Teaching Excellence.

Amy is the author of “Birth, Breath, and Death -- Meditations on Motherhood, Chaplaincy, and Life as a Doula” published in 2013 and the forthcoming “Holding Space: On Loving, Dying, and Letting Go,” published by Parallax Press.

Description: “Nourishing our Spiritual Lives: Reflections on Teacher Self Care”

Amy will address the central task of keeping one’s own proverbial well full while engaged in the multifaceted and time consuming work of teaching. How to avoid teacher burnout? How to balance the many demands on one’s time? Whether one identifies with a particular spiritual tradition or not, all are welcome to reflect upon what it means to nourish and sustain a healthy emotional and spiritual life while honoring our call to nourish the wellbeing of the children and teens in our care.

Participants are encouraged to bring a charged laptop or tablet in order to access Google Drive documents
