Assistant Director of the Pennington Fund


The Pennington School is an independent coeducational school for students in grades 6 through 12, in both day and boarding programs. The curriculum is college preparatory, with an emphasis on individual excellence, fostering the development of the whole student through academics, athletics, community service, and the creative and performing arts. Pennington is dedicated to providing our students with a global perspective, an emphasis on character, an appreciation for diversity and inclusion of all types.


Reporting to the Director of the Pennington Fund, the Assistant Director of the Pennington Fund will be responsible for developing and managing student and young alumni philanthropy programs at The Pennington School. Under the supervision of the Director of the Pennington Fund, the Assistant Director will create a comprehensive plan to engage and solicit various constituent groups.

The Assistant Director will assist in developing and implementing a major reunion giving program for all alumni and work as a key contributor of the Pennington Fund team responsible for helping to maintain a complete annual calendar of print and digital solicitation and stewardship campaigns.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Student Phonathon

    • Work with faculty members to help recruit current students for phonathon program

    • With the help of Director of the Pennington Fund, create training program for student callers

    • Develop incentive program to help motivate student callers and keep them engaged

    • Process phonathon data daily
       

  • Student Philanthropy

    • Develop and manage a program to encourage understanding of philanthropy among students on campus

    • Set achievable goals for student philanthropy

    • Collaborate with faculty and staff to recruit and train student leaders to form committee 

    • Advise and mentor committee members on philanthropy

    • Create a calendar of events on educating students about philanthropy alongside committee

    • Report weekly giving statistics
       

  • Young Alumni Philanthropy

    • Develop and manage a young alumni engagement and solicitation plan

    • Recruit and manage alumni volunteers to increase alumni donor participation

    • Develop and manage a young alumni marketing campaign for Giving Tuesday and Pennington Giving Day

    • Develop and manage a young alumni donor stewardship program

    • Report on data and trends for young alumni giving
       

  • Reunion Giving

    • With assistance from colleagues in Alumni and Development, identify and recruit volunteers for the major reunion giving program

    • Maintain reunion giving records for alumni classes and for quinquennial reunions

    • Assist with training of reunion giving volunteers

    • Provide progress updates and reports to reunion volunteers

  • Occasional evening and weekend work, including events for Pennington alumni, parents, and donors

  • Occasional writing for Pennington Magazine and other publications

  • Other duties as requested

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor's degree with 1-3 years previous fundraising experience

  • Knowledge of school-related fundraising databases, particularly The Raiser’s Edge

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Practical knowledge of annual giving operations and experience increasing donor participation

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to work with a wide range of individuals

  • Ability to create and implement a demanding timetable

  • Initiative and an ability to work both independently and collaboratively

  • Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Experience in independent school settings (particularly boarding schools) is highly desirable

  • Proficiency with social media is highly desirable
