This is a full-time teaching position for someone with a strong background in physical education, health and fitness/wellness programs at both the middle and upper school levels. The position also includes two seasons of coaching in the athletic department, which may require the candidate begin in mid-August, 2019. The department philosophy encompasses the common goal for having students live healthy and active lifestyles. Individuals who apply should be extremely responsible and highly motivated to teach and to make interdisciplinary connections across the various divisions of the school. In addition to teaching, our faculty members are involved in a variety of activities critical to the education of students at Dwight-Englewood School.
In addition to teaching a full load of classes, the position includes:
Teaching middle school health and physical education classes
Teaching upper school courses related to group exercise and fitness
Serve as an advisor to a group of middle school students
Coach two seasons of athletics (one of the seasons as a varsity Head Coach)
Supervision of the girl’s locker room
Other duties, as assigned by Department Chair and Division Head
Qualifications: The ideal candidate should have excellent oral, written and electronic communication skills; demonstrate the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse educational environment, and have strong interpersonal skills, warmth, humor and energy. B.S. in health and physical education or its equivalent is required. Experience in developing or working in a wellness environment is advantageous. Candidates having certifications in the areas of health education, Yoga and Meditation, Strength and Conditioning, spinning and, in the playing or coaching of multiple sports will be given extra consideration.
Preference will be given to those candidates that can coach Girls' Soccer and Girls' Lacrosse.
