The essence of who we are as a learning community at The Elisabeth Morrow School is our commitment to developing the whole individual.  To nurture physically and socially-emotionally healthy, well balanced and competent thinkers and leaders, we strive to ensure that every student is healthy, safe, engaged, supported and appropriately challenged.  We are seeking a Director of Counseling and Wellness Programs to lead and organize our efforts to promote healthy habits of mind, body and heart.  


Responsibilities of the Director of Counseling and Wellness: 


  • Lead the development of a comprehensive health and wellness curriculum for age 3 - grade 8

  • Facilitate critical conversations around health and wellness initiatives with PE department, athletic coaching staff, nursing staff, teacher-advisors, school psychologist(s) and the community at large  

  • Lead trainings on relevant health and wellness topics for the greater school community

  • Promote the school’s efforts to bring Mindfulness to all constituent groups

  • Help construct, articulate and evaluate, the PE, health, advisory and wellness curricula

  • With the administration, develop the proper staffing model for PE, health, and wellness, including developing third party resources

  • Develop a program to engage and educate families on the best ways to support health and wellness with their children

  • Serve as the Department Chair of the Physical Education department


The successful candidate will possess:


  • A masters degree with a focus on child development, counseling/psychology, fitness and wellness and/or guidance

  • An understanding of the physical, social and emotional developmental stages of students from 3 to 14. 

  • An ability to develop innovative programming for multiple constituencies around health and wellness issues such as harm reduction, sexuality, nutrition, fitness, mindfulness, and mental health.

  • An ability to connect with students, faculty, and families of diverse backgrounds and understand the role that identity plays in their relationship to health and wellness issues

  • Knowledge of key social/emotional elements of health and wellness, including media literacy, healthy relationships and consent, alcohol and other drugs, body image, nutrition, mental health, human sexuality, and stress management

  • An understanding of the ubiquity of social media and its impact on health and wellness

  • Experience in working collaboratively with other health professionals in a school or community-based organization setting

  • An ability to work productively as a member of a leadership team 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • A sense of humor
