Talk Saves Lives is The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s (AFSP) education program that provides participants with a clear understanding of this leading cause of death, including the most up-to-date research on suicide prevention, and what they can do in their communities to save lives. Participants will learn common risk factors and warning signs associated with suicide.

Presented by:

Maureen Brogan is the Program Manager for the Statewide Traumatic Loss Coalition at Rutgers-University Behavioral Health Care, New Jersey's primary youth suicide prevention program funded by the Department of Children and Families. Maureen is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Approved Clinical Supervisor and a Diplomate at the American Academy of Experts in Trauma. She is a Master Trainer in the evidence based practice of suicide prevention Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR). She is a certified Talk Saves Lives trainer for the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention and the assistant producer of Signs Matter: Early Detection online suicide prevention training for educators. She is a certified Psychological First Aid Trainer (PFA) for the National Child Traumatic Stress Network. Maureen is the co-chair of the New Jersey Youth Suicide Prevention Advisory Council, appointed by the Governor, the President of the Senate, and by the Speaker of the General Assembly. She is also one of the first clinicians certified in the United States as a Disaster Response Crisis Counselor and is team Leader for the State of New Jersey under the Disaster and Terrorism Branch within the Division of Mental Health. She is an experienced conference presenter, clinician, with over 25 years of postgraduate experience in a variety of clinical and administrative positions, including extensive experience in providing treatment, psychological first aid, and traumatic stress interventions with youth, adults, and families. She is sought after as an expert panelist and has been interviewed by various media outlets including NJ Spotlight, Times Magazine, Philadelphia Inquirer, New 12 (NJ, NY and CT) , NJ 101.5 as well as CBS News.

Wendy Sefcik is the Chair of the NJ Youth Suicide Prevention Advisory Council, appointed by the governor. Wendy is a Stigma Free Ambassador for Montville Township and Morris County NJ. She also serves as a NJ Chapter Board Member for The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Wendy regularly attends workshops and training seminars on mental health and suicide prevention. Most important she provides support and guidance for parents of struggling teens and those dealing with suicide loss. She is a certified Teen Mental Health First Aid and QPR trainer. Wendy earned her BA in Communications from The Ohio State University and her JD from Seton Hall School of Law.

Cancellation Policy:

Registration fees will only be refunded if NJAIS is notified of your cancellation two weeks prior to the program. You may transfer your registration to a colleague in your school at no cost.
