Enjoy lunch and connection with your Head of School colleagues and a presentation by Kevin Ruth, President of ECIS.

What is Higher Education Up To?

This presentation will examine some typological approaches that forward-thinking universities are undertaking, as they consider how best to remain relevant. Making use of selected visible thinking routines from Harvard’s Project Zero, we will identify what lessons there might be across independent schools of all types, in terms of typologies and models for alternative futures, and what educational principles would serve as rallying points to clarify not just our purpose, but our impact on students’ lives. This conversation should serve as a framework-organizing conversation with your leadership team when you return to school. This is relevant for PK-12 schools.

Presenter: Kevin J. Ruth, Ph.D., is President of the European Council on Independent Schools. Formerly, he served as Assistant Head for Strategic Initiatives at Tower Hill School (Delaware), where he also teaches languages and history. In addition to serving on several non-profit boards, including service as an independent school trustee, Kevin is a Fellow in the UK-based Royal Society of Arts; a member of the Online Executive Panel (Education) for McKinsey & Company; a member of the Feedback Forum (Marketing) for the Financial Times; and a past lecturer for the National Endowment for the Humanities. He is a frequent presenter at national and regional conferences and has been involved with numerous cutting-edge initiatives in the realms of leadership, development, technology, 21st century web-based learning, diversity, and more.
