Kent Place School, a non-sectarian school for girls in grades K-12 with a co-educational Preschool, seeks a Director of the Middle School to begin July 1, 2018. The Director of the Middle School is the primary administrator for grades 6-8, a division of 150 girls and 30 faculty. The Middle School Director has overall responsibility for curriculum, faculty support and supervision, and student and parent programs for the division. He or she reports to the Head of School and is a member of the Administrative Team. Support personnel include an Administrative Assistant, Dean of Students, School Counselor, Learning Specialist, Nurse and grade level team leaders. Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with training and experience.


Responsibilities of the Position:


    CURRICULUM                                                                                                                                      

  • In coordination with the Director of Studies, provide vision for and oversee the development and implementation of the Middle School curriculum, and work on collaboration between departments in the areas of curriculum and skill development

  • Serve as a resource for the scheduler and help to set priorities for the Middle School schedule   

  

    COMMUNITY RELATIONS

  • Develop and nurture a strong and positive sense of community among students, faculty, parents and administrators in the Middle School

  • Serve as a resource on the benefits and distinction of an all-girls school

  • Serve as a positive role model and demonstrate best practices in a diverse and inclusive school community


    FACULTY

  • Supervise and inspire Middle School teachers and advisors

  • Communicate Middle School activities and concerns to teachers

  • With the Director of Studies, lead searches for Middle School teacher and staff vacancies

  • Evaluate Middle School faculty

  • Support teachers in discipline issues with students

  • Ensure high quality learning experiences and environment


PARENT RELATIONS

  • Communicate Middle School activities and programs to the parents   

through meetings and electronic communication

  • Lead parent discussions about age-appropriate expectations and behaviors

  • Receive and resolve parental concerns

  • Organize and host Back-to-School Night


ADMISSIONS

  • Serve as a liaison between the Admission Office and Middle School applicant families

  • Serve as a member of the Middle School Admission Committee


ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a positive and collaborative member of the Administrative Team   

and oversee Administrative Assistant in the Middle School Office and functions of the office

  • Oversee the Middle School budget

  • Supervise the Middle School Dean, Learning Specialist, Counselor,  Nurse and grade level team leaders


Key Qualifications:


  • Inspire students, faculty and the broader community around a common vision for the Middle School

  • A passion for working with Middle School students, faculty and parents in an all-girls environment     

  • Embrace an interdisciplinary/student-centered approach that balances tradition and innovation

  • Combine prior experience as an educational leader with the desire to learn and grow and advocate for all-girls education

  • Communicate clearly and transparently, both orally and in writing

  • Listen well and also serve as a decisive and inclusive leader

  • A dedicated learner with personal and professional integrity and the capacity to serve as a model of openness and acceptance

  • A sense of humor

  • A master’s degree in a subject area or related field of education

  • Prior experience as a Middle School teacher

  • Comfort and fluency with current technologies
