Montclair Kimberley Academy (Montclair, NJ) is seeking an Associate Director
of Admissions for the Primary School (Pre-K-3rd grade). The ideal candidate will
be outgoing and socially confident, highly organized, able to establish positive
relationships and personal connections with prospective and current families, have
excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrate initiative and have
a strong work ethic. In addition, this person should be well versed in formulating
admissions strategies and marketing initiatives. The Associate Director of
Admissions reports directly to the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid as
well as the Head of the Primary School.
Summary of Responsibilities:
The Associate Director of Admissions for Primary School helps to lead the team
that designs and carries out the admission and enrollment processes at Montclair
Kimberley Academy. The Associate Director works with prospective Primary
School students and families in the application process that begins with the
family’s first contact with MKA and concludes with an admissions decision, and
when applicable with enrollment at MKA. Responsibilities include outreach and
recruitment activities, screenings/testing with students, interviews with their
families, and maintaining engagement with the applicant and family through
telephone contact and electronic and written communication. The Associate
Director also communicates often with faculty regarding admissions news and
updates.
Major Duties and Specific Responsibilities:
The Associate Director implements the Primary School admissions practices that
encourage families to consider MKA, determines an applicant’s eligibility for
acceptance to MKA, and leads accepted students (and families) to enroll. The
Associate Director is responsible for making sure that information about MKA
and its mission are appropriately and accurately represented to the community at
large. The Associate Director interviews and tours prospective families, and

summarizes information and impressions for inclusion in applicants’ admissions
files. The Associate Director provides information and support to the applicant and
family throughout the admissions process, and is the first reader of a student’s
application. Once admissions decisions are shared with applicants, the Associate
Director maintains continuing communication and engagement with the applicant
and family.
Committee Responsibilities: The Associate Director of Admissions for Primary
School leads the Primary School Admissions Committee and is a member of The
Enrollment Planning Committee. In addition, the Associate Director sits on the
Student Services Committee at Primary School.
Outreach/Recruitment: The Associate Director is responsible for representing
MKA at school fairs, conferences and school visits in order to encourage
prospective students and families in their consideration of MKA and explain our
admissions process. The Associate Director assists with the planning and
execution of on-campus recruitment events, including open houses and
information sessions.
Other Duties:
• Admissions process management: responsible for oversight of the sequence and
stages of the admissions process from inquiry to enrollment for Primary School
applicants.
• Works with the Director of Communications and Admissions support staff to
evaluate, update and provide quality control over admissions print information
(catalogue, individual program pieces, etc.) and application forms.
• Plans and implements retention strategies for current students with the Head of
Primary School and the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid.
• Tracks stages of admissions application and process completion including
written communication to families and oversight of Admissions decision letters
and telephone contact.
• Works with the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid and the Associate
Director of Admissions for Upper School to design effective admissions
committee procedures.
• Works with the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid and the Associate
Director of Admissions for Upper School to design and implement enrollment
management procedures.
• Participates in evening and weekend Admissions activities as needed.
• Attends Primary School Faculty meetings as determined by the Head of Upper
School
• Organizes Primary School Admissions Ambassadors program.
