NJAIS Accreditation Program Overview
Benefits of NJAIS Accreditation
The thorough and rigorous process of accreditation that is run by NJAIS is important to independent schools for several reasons:
The process of writing the Self-Study Report, evaluation by peer review, and follow-up is one way that schools strengthen themselves as they realize their mission.
An effective process of evaluation and accreditation brings credibility to NJAIS and all of its members.
The alternative to an effective and professional peer review could be over-involvement by state and/or federal governmental agencies, a step that would likely be more cumbersome and less responsive to the unique character of independent schools.
Other benefits of NJAIS accreditation include:
Facilitating school and college admissions, transfers, and admission of international students;
Promoting a reflective and collaborative school improvement process;
Providing school leaders with validation of current programs and services and suggested planning for future growth and development;
Granting educators valuable professional development and information about effective practices in other schools through participation on peer review teams;
Presenting a school’s Board of Trustees an independent, non-governmental validation that the school they oversee is effectively delivering a quality educational experience to its students;
Recognizing educational leaders at all levels with deserved acclamation for going above and beyond the minimum to demonstrate their ongoing commitment to quality;
Assuring parents and the public that the school is focused on providing a safe and enriching learning environment while maintaining an efficient and effective operation; and
Providing a credential that is essential in corporate and foundation fundraising.
NJAIS is a certified member of the NAIS Commission on Accreditation. Not unlike school accreditation, NJAIS voluntarily participates in a rigorous and impartial review of its accreditation program, and demonstrates adherence to the NAIS Commission's Criteria for Effective Independent School Accreditation Practices.
